Diploma in Intercultural Studies

Students currently enrolled in this course must complete the course requirements by 31 December 2010 in order to graduate.

This course offers excellent preparation for crosscultural work in Australia and overseas. It provides training and insights relevant for Christians who are called to work in cross-cultural roles, in mission or other settings. The course builds on a foundation of biblical and theological topics, explores the nature, principles and practice of Christian mission in various cultural contexts, and provides an opportunity for practical field experience.

On successful completion of the course, students will have a sound understanding of their own culture, faith and worldview, and will be better able to understand and appreciate those of others. They will be able to relate to and work with people of other cultures, showing respect and sensitivity based on sound biblical and missiological principles.

Opportunities for those who complete this course may include:
· long-term or short-term mission/ministry with people of other cultures;
· other work in cross-cultural settings in Australia or overseas;
· membership or leadership of mission support groups;
· assisting ethnic groups in appropriate ways in church, parachurch or community situations;
· assisting migrants from other cultures; and
· showing compassion to the needy and helping disadvantaged people to discover ways to rise above the poverty cycle.

DURATION

The course can be completed in two years or the parttime equivalent
