Services

The Resource Centre provides students and staff with access to the following services.

Photocopying

A Toshiba and Imagetec photocopier are available for student use, and A4 copying is available on both machines, at a cost of 15 cents per page. The Toshiba photocopier is coin operated, and change is not given. To use the Imagetec copier, students are required to purchase photocopy credit at the resource centre service desk, which is added to the student card. Students with a laminated student card are required to manually enter their student number and PIN on the card reader attached to this machine. Students using a student card with a magnetic strip are required to swipe their card through the card reader, and then enter their PIN. Please see the library staff for assistance with photocopying.

Copyright

Students should note that there are copyright infringement laws. As outlined in Section 40 of the Copyright Act 1968, for the purposes of individual research and study, an individual may make a single copy of: - one article in each issue of a periodical publication, and more than one article if the articles relate to the same subject material (parts of more than one article may not be copied unless they relate to the same subject matter); - a reasonable portion of a work that has been published separately (A 'reasonable portion' of a literary, dramatic or musical work, in an edition of not less than 10 pages, is defined in Section 10 of the Copyright Act as 10% of the number of pages in that edition or up to one chapter of a book. A 'reasonable portion' is not defined in relation to a work in an edition of less than 10 pages or in relation to artistic works.); and - for text material published in electronic form, one chapter or up to 10% of the number of words. Students may use specified College photocopying machines if the requisite photocopying fees are paid and copyright regulations are followed.

Thermal and spiral binding is available for $3.00 per bound document. This binding includes a clear plastic front cover, a cardboard back cover and the plastic binding strip. This is an excellent way to present large assignments, Directed Study Projects (DSPs) or theses and is suitable for documents from 10 pages to 250 pages long.

Covering

Book covering is available for $2.00 per book. The covering involves a polyethylene sleeve that is cut and sealed to size.

Laser printing is available at the cost of 15¢ per A4 page. This service can be performed from memory sticks or directly off the bank of computers in the resource centre.

Bookshop

The resource centre at Melbourne has negotiated a fifteen percent (15%) discount on resources available through Koorong stores and a number of other suppliers. To take advantage of this discount offer simply present your current student card at any Koorong store.

Alternatively, contact us at the resource centre with your order. Once the resources have arrived you will be advised of the net price payable and you will then have two options: 1) Collect the resources personally, 2) Have the resources posted out. For postal requests a shipping charge will apply and the resources will only be shipped after full payment has been received.

Second Hand Books

A range of second hand resources that are surplus to Resource Centre requirements are available for sale. These items are typically very cheap! eg. $1 or $2

Internet Access

The internet is free to use within the library on the library computers. Wireless internet is also available to students with laptops, tablets or other internet enabled devices.
