VET students are permitted to resubmit tasks during the course of a competency-based unit until they are competent. Once competency has been demonstrated, no further resubmissions are allowed.
Higher Education students (and students in knowledge-based VET units) applying for resubmission will fall into one of two categories.
failure due to poor quality of work or
failure due to late submission.
Each category is treated differently. Students who are given the opportunity to resubmit assignments may only do so once for each task. The result given for the resubmitted assignment becomes the recorded grade
Students who receive 45-49% on an assignment due to a low awarded mark (not late submission) are permitted to resubmit the assignment provided the following guidelines are met.
The student must discuss the possibility of a resubmission with their lecturer and complete the Request for Resubmission Form.
The revised essay must be submitted no more then 2 weeks after the approval of the Request for Resubmission. The resubmitted assignment will be graded on its merit.
Level 3 and 4 students who receive a mark of 44% or less on an assignment due to poor quality of work (not late submission) are not permitted to resubmit the assignment. In the event that this result causes them to fail the unit the student must re-enroll in the unit, pay all regular tuition fees and complete all the class work specified in the Unit Guide.
Students who fail an assignment due to late submission but do not consequently fail the unit are not permitted to resubmit.
Students who fail an assignment due to late submission and consequently fail the unit may be permitted to resubmit a new assignment provided the following criteria are met.
The student must make an appointment with their Course Advisor to discuss resubmission and complete the Request for Resubmission Form.
The resubmitted assignment must be based on a different question to the first assignment
The new assignment must be submitted within three weeks of the Request for Resubmission Form being approved.
The resubmitted assignment will not attract the original late penalty, but will attract any further penalties if handed in after the arranged date, as per the Late Submission Policy. The resubmitted assignment will be graded on its merit.
A student who fails a test or examination may be granted a supplementary test or examination after a further period of study, provided that the student’s performance in other components of the assessment has been satisfactory. A student will not be permitted to repeat a failed unit more than twice without permission from the Head of School and at least two other faculty members.
