Union of Tabor College and Kingsley College

The union of two of Victoria’s most reputable Christian Colleges celebrates nearly 100 years of combined experience in providing quality Christian education and training.

It is expected the Australian church and the wider mission field will benefit greatly from joining the best faculty, staff, student body of both Colleges. The new college will offer the highest quality curriculum and training – from counselling to education, arts to theology.

The dream of a united college became a reality in September 2007 when the boards of Tabor Victoria and Kingsley College agreed to pursue a partnership that will take effect in January 2008.

The united college will operate under the name of Tabor Victoria, with Wynand de Kock as Principal, and will have its main campus in Ringwood North. Kingsley College will continue as Kingsley Australia and will oversee the pre-service and in-service ministry formation of candidates and ministers in the Wesleyan Methodist
Church.

Peter Dobson, the current Principal of Kingsley College, will oversee Wesleyan studies in the new combined college. The current Kingsley campus in Hadfield will become the North West annexe of the united College in addition to the South East annexe at the Berwick Church of Christ. Tabor will continue to offer the Year in the Son program in Ocean Grove.

The united college will provide:
A united Counselling curriculum – Tabor Victoria and Kingsley College have become known over the years for their quality training of Christian counsellors. As one college we will have a stronger faculty in a highly specialised field of study and can embark on research, share expertise in complex areas of human need and
standardise field placements across Victoria.

A united Education curriculum – Together we will have a complete curriculum to provide teacher training for primary and high school teachers in Victoria. Tabor Victoria has recently been accredited to provide secondary school teacher training in Victoria. Kingsley College is about to submit documentation for accreditation to
train primary school teachers.

A united Arts curriculum – Tabor Victoria has been accredited to offer a general Bachelor of Arts with areas of studies such as English, Art, Youth Studies, Biblical Studies, History, Mathematics and Applied Linguistics. As one college we will have more resources and expertise in arts subjects to provide a Christian perspective for the study of the Arts.

A united Theology, Mission and Ministry curriculum – both colleges have excelled in this area. Courses are offered from introductory level certificates to Bachelor and Masters Degrees. As a united college we will continue to train those called to study theology, mission and ministry from all denominations across Australia
and from other parts of the world. In partnership with Kingsley we would also provide special lectures and tutorials in Wesleyan studies.

A united Resource – Tabor Victoria has approximately 45,000 volumes in its library, while Kingsley College has approximately 25,000 volumes. Joining the two resource centres would provide an impressive collection of resources for our students, church and community.

A united Student body – Tabor Victoria and Kingsley College attract students from all over Victoria and Australia, from more than 15 denominations. Students from many mission groups, para-church organisations and non-government organisations are already studying at these two colleges. As a united college the student
body would be enlarged making it an even more exciting and vibrant environment in which to study.

Please pray for the leadership of the two colleges as they embark on a journey together to empower God’s people to transform the world. For more information about courses for 2008 visit
