John Capper

(REVD DR JOHN MARK CAPPER)

John Capper is Dean of Tabor Victoria and teaches mostly in the area of Theology.

John has a PhD from the University of Cambridge (on “Karl Barth’s Theology of Joy”). John has also studied history, philosophy and education since his undergraduate studies in engineering and theology.

Since ordination in the Anglican Church, John has served as Vicar of Collarenebri (NW NSW) and Principal of the Church Army College of Evangelism in Sydney. He maintains a regular connection with the church, through teaching and leadership. He and Wendy are active members of St Paul’s Anglican Church Ringwood . John has previously connected his ministry skills to ministries as diverse as Darlinghurst [Kings Cross] and Redfern in inner Sydney and Roseville East and Denistone East/Marsfield [now Macquarie Anglican] in suburban Sydney. Whilst in England John and Wendy were active in the Parish of All Saints’ Cottenham (Diocese of Ely) and John assisted with services in Selwyn College Chapel.

In theological education, John has taught at many theological colleges, from Pentecostal to denominational, in both England and Australia. He is a Member of the Australian College of Theology and is their Moderator in Theology. He is also a doctoral supervisor and has been moderator for the Sydney College of Divinity.

John passionately believes that theology, ethics and spirituality are inextricably linked, and that all are practical arts worthy of development for life and ministry. See Why being a Christian thinker is the best job in the world

John has publications and conference papers to his credit in the areas of the theology of joy, trinitarian theology, the thought of Karl Barth, online adult education, and the Internet and ministry. He has an ongoing interest in the book of Lamentations, the writings of Julian of Norwich, and the nature of mission at social margins.

Wendy and John have four daughters, spread between high school, college, university and the workplace.

John is the only member of his family committed to pogonotrophy. Wendy is, however, when the need arises, a competent and committed pogonotomist (see also previous link).
